Chambers Path
A course and enrolment platform for a bar-training provider: cohorts, payments, progress and tutor workload in one place.
Chambers Path trains candidates for the bar. Teaching quality was never the problem; the administration around each cohort was consuming the people who should have been teaching.

The commercial problem
Tutors were spending two days per cohort on spreadsheets and payment chasing.
Enrolment ran on email and a booking form that did not know how many seats were left. Payment plans were tracked by hand. Nobody could see a candidate’s progress without asking their tutor, and tutor workload was balanced by whoever complained loudest.
Before: ~2 days of admin per cohort
System strategy
How the system was shaped.
01
Make enrolment know the truth
Seats, waiting lists and prerequisites enforced at the point of booking rather than corrected afterwards.
02
Take payment properly
Instalment plans, reminders and reconciliation handled by the system, not by a tutor with a spreadsheet.
03
Make progress visible
Attendance, assessment and standing on one candidate record that the candidate can see too.
04
Balance tutor load deliberately
Sessions allocated against declared capacity, with the load visible before the cohort opens.
Two journeys, one system
- 01Course pagesEach course and cohort indexed, with dates and remaining seats accurate.
- 02Eligibility checkPrerequisites confirmed before payment, not after enrolment.
- 03Enrol & payFull payment or an instalment plan, confirmed immediately.
- 04Candidate areaTimetable, materials, assessment dates and payment status in one place.
- 05CompletionStanding, results and certification issued from the same record.
- 01Cohort openedDates, capacity, tutors and pricing set once; the public pages follow automatically.
- 02Enrolments monitoredLive seat count, waiting list and conversion from enquiry to enrolment.
- 03Payments reconciledPlans, failures and reminders handled by the system, escalated only when they need a person.
- 04Teaching load balancedSession allocation against declared tutor capacity, visible before term starts.
- 05Progress recordedAttendance and assessment captured in the session, not retyped later.

Architecture snapshot
Four layers, one source of truth
Nothing exotic. A boring, well-drawn architecture is what keeps a system cheap to extend three years later.

Accessibility
- Candidate area meets WCAG 2.2 AA, including timetable tables with proper header association.
- Enrolment form validates inline with errors announced and focus moved to the first invalid field.
- Materials are downloadable rather than locked into a viewer, which suits assistive technology.

Same problem, different sector?
The pattern behind Chambers Path — fill cohorts predictably and take the admin off the tutors — transfers to most businesses selling complex, high-value work.
